UScript: Temp gauge

I have been looking into decreasing the health of the player as he is in the water volume, but I have come across a way I could instead edit the length of time the player can survive without air located:

C:\UDK\UDK-2011-01\Development\Src\Engine\Classes\CheatManager.uc (1 hits)
Line 201: Pawn.UnderwaterTime = +999999.0;

possibly then insert an else statement in the player controller to regenerate health.

Re-evaluated Character Concept

As our character will be going into extremely cold water temperatures we have decided to alter her wetsuit design to be full length rather than shorts.
We have also decided to add another design to her wetsuit which will be the name of the wetsuit company which will be printed in ogham writing.

Fin concepts

The fin design we most liked was a simple one and then I came up with some designs for it.

As I said before our character is Irish so we decided on a triskele as our flipper design the same design on both the bottom and top of the flippers.

Diving goggle conepts

According to cave diving information most divers prefer black surround to their goggles but in terms of shapes there are quite a few.  These are a few.

We decided on the two oval ones, we like the one with the nose piece more but are unsure.

Then I came up with different strap options, we both liked the simple two piece but thought it should connect in some way to the breathing apparatus.  We are stuck between the x-cross at the back or the sideways K.

Heat Discs holding system

Based of the design Valentine has drawn I have concepted a few ideas of how they may be equipped to the character.

We are currently undecided on the design.

Mood Boards

Firstly the mood board for our level.  We know we want blues and greens, and due to the cave we have chosen white also.  The cave system will consist of caverns, tunnels and very tight cave areas.  We also wanted to have some dramatic lighting in certain areas of the cave.  This is the moodboard for this.

Next is the mood board for our character. We have chosen to have red hair, well dark hair which highlights red, as we want her to be Irish.  In turn as she is Irish she will have green, grey or blue eyes and possibly freckles.

Level Concepts

The follow images are just simple ideas for possible level layouts.  Simply just lines and circles, the intended idea is to just have a rough idea of how we wish the level to look and how to create an interesting maze that is believable.

Dan-yr-Ogof

The following images are just a select few of the images we took at the Dan-yr-Ogof cave over the weekend.

We were able to learn alot form are trip to Dan-yr-Ogof, it gave us a great inset on how we could do around conceptional are level and also some idea's for interesting elements that we could add into are level.

HUD

We want our HUD to be very minimal and just consist of solely a temperature gauge.
So I did some research on thermometers.
An initial idea was a simple thermometer but it goes from red to blue as the character gets colder.

The above thermometer may even have a little flashing word telling the player DANGER, similar in effect to this in look.

Liquid crystal thermometer.

Another idea was to have a HUD similar to that of Galileo's thermometer but instead the temp. of the character would float on the top rather than in the middle.

Loading screen

We thought of having an oxygen gauge as a loading screen, but since we are not having oxygen effect our we thought this may confuse the player.

Another idea for a loading screen is having a thermometers temperature raise or lower.

We also considered water rising up the screen as the game loaded.

GUI

Both our initial ideas for the GUI (start screen) was to have light shafts through the water and looking on through the cave.
I then did a quick sketch up using images found on the internet.

Liking this idea but not wanting to stick to it as our only concept I sketched out a couple more.

Character is starring down at her feet, when start is selected the camera zooms in on the water and turns to black, as if she has stepped into the water.
Another idea similar to this is a third person image of the character.

Image of a map and tools and info needed for the adventure, each object representing a different option.
Along the same lines it could simple be a notebook.
